I have thought about it.  The CF would probably not be as good as  
fibreglass.  I have tried CF tent poles for shafts but the fibres are  
not oriented for carrying shear.  I have intentions to wrap a 1/4"  
spring steel shaft with fibreglass tape and test that.  The  
fibreglass would carry most of the torque.  The steel would primarily  
be the former.   The fibreglass should protect the steel from corrosion.

Have you thought about using fiberglass or possible CF for the drive
shaft instead of steel? You might save some weight there.
