The sleeved shaft is 24% stiffer while being 6% heavier.

I may have got a bit better if I had been able to get the fibres at  
45 degrees rather than something less.

The resin ratio is about 1.5x so more than you would use with  
multiple layers.  I was aiming for the resin to provide extra  
protection for the CF.

Remember the stiffness is a function of the 4th power of diameter so  
the improvement is not linear.  Another layer would probably get to  
60% better and three layers would be equivalent to the steel alone.

Aluminium is 1/3rd the stiffness of steel so one layer of the CF will  
almost double what you get from aluminium rod.
